Level 1 – Lactation Enablers (Basic) – Peer Counsellors.

Supporting close to 1.5 lakh Indian mothers on their breastfeeding journey gave Breastfeeding Support for Indian Mothers (BSIM) deep insights into the gaps in lactation support in India.

One way to fill the huge gap would be to have more individuals trained in lactation in order to have better health outcomes in babies and their mothers.

The course was designed to keep breastfeeding mothers at the centre of our problem-solving goals, since they needed to be supported the most if we want babies to be breastfed. Having worked with breastfeeding mothers for close to 10 years gave us deep insights into the needs of mothers who wished to breastfeed and the reasons why they were unable to.

Whom can they help?

Those who complete this level will be able to support their friends, family, and neighbours on their lactation journey.

Summary of what this level of the course covers:

This level focuses on the importance of breastfeeding, how breast milk production works, detailed information on how to improve latch and positioning, biologically appropriate newborn behaviour and most importantly – counselling skills.
